GPT Image is OpenAI's family of image models, the technology behind ChatGPT Images. On September 8, 2026 OpenAI added two: GPT Image 2.5 Flare, built for speed, and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, built for precision. GPT Image 2, from April, is still available and still very good.
OpenAI says 2.5 brings sharper detail, more natural light and edits that change only what you ask for. On LMArena's public leaderboards Sunburst and Flare took first and second place for both text-to-image and image editing, with GPT Image 2 third. Fiddl runs all three at OpenAI's high quality setting.
One try per model with Fiddl's settings, nothing retouched. Times are from our run on October 3, 2026.
Same label text on all three; the bottle shape and splash differ.
Three natural, believable candids from the same sentence.
Flare added a kicker and two taglines nobody asked for; the other two used only the requested text.
Japanese and prices correct on all three.
Very close in style; each kept the fox, the owl and the lantern.
One photo and one instruction, sent to each model. Look at what changes and what stays.
All three changed the date and left every other word, the bass and the river alone.
Each model put the same man in a restaurant kitchen. Compare the face, the beard and the hairline.
All three take text and reference images. They differ in speed, precision and price.
Fast drafts, social posts, mockups and lots of variations. OpenAI's default for most work.
Flare guideExact work: campaign creative, product shots, and faces or lettering that must survive an edit.
Sunburst guideText-heavy layouts and big batches, at half the price per image on Fiddl.

Flare is the fast model: OpenAI calls it the default choice for most work, and in our test it made an image in about 27 seconds. Sunburst is the precise model: slower (about 40 seconds in our test) but ranked first on the public leaderboards, and the one to use when faces, products, labels or layouts must stay exactly the same through an edit. On Fiddl both cost the same per image.
On LMArena's leaderboards in late September 2026, both 2.5 models ranked above GPT Image 2 for text-to-image and for image editing. In our side-by-side test all three spelled every word correctly; the 2.5 models were two to four times faster. GPT Image 2 still makes excellent images and costs half as much on Fiddl, so it remains a good pick for big batches.
On LMArena's text-to-image board dated September 24, 2026, Sunburst and Flare ranked first and second; Nano Banana Pro ranked fourteenth. On the image-edit board of September 29 the 2.5 models were again first and second, with Nano Banana Pro tenth. Leaderboards measure average preference, so for a specific style it is worth trying both; Fiddl has Nano Banana 2 as well.
Packs are one-time payments from $10. With Flare or Sunburst the $10 Starter pack makes about 25 images and the $42.50 Studio pack about 125, which works out to between $0.28 and $0.40 per image depending on the pack. 4K images cost a little more, and GPT Image 2 costs half as much. During the launch, code GPTIMAGE20 takes 20% off any pack until November 2, 2026.
Not on Fiddl: there is no free tier for these models. You buy a one-time pack from $10, with no subscription, and unused balance stays in your account. During the launch, code GPTIMAGE20 takes 20% off any pack until November 2, 2026.
The one that fits your request. The agent leans on Flare when speed matters and on Sunburst for demanding edits, keeps a model you chose yourself, and shows you the plan and the cost before it creates anything.
No. Describe what you need in plain words, attach photos if you have them, and the creation agent writes the prompt. Every example on this page shows the exact prompt we used, if you want to start from one.
